Manhattanhenge- 2025

Where and how to see the sunset align with Manhattan's street grid. Manhattanhenge is a result of the city's grid layout. Manhattan's streets are oriented roughly east-west, and the sun's position at certain times of the year aligns with these streets, creating the illusion of the sun setting within the grid.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Where to See Manhattanhenge

View the sunset from Manhattan's main east/west thoroughfares:

  • 14th Street
  • 23rd Street
  • 34th Street
  • 42nd Street
  • 57th Street

Find a spot as far east as possible that still has views of New Jersey across the Hudson River.

The sunset can also be viewed from these locations:

  • Tudor City Overpass, Manhattan
  • Hunter's Point South Park in Long Island City, Queens
