Community Science Seining Demonstration
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 09/28/2024
Join us as we celebrate National Estuaries Week! Discover the East River’s amazing biodiversity as we use a seine net to humanely catch-and-release organisms, including fish, jellyfish, crabs, and more!
Around this time of year, the strong Gulf Stream pushes warm water far up the East Coast. Young fish and eggs are easily swept up in the current, resulting in more diverse “tropical” southern species ending up here in New York waters. During our seining demonstration, stop by to see if we catch any tropical strays or other exciting organisms!
